Mrs. Renteria studied Early Childhood Education at the University of North Texas at Dallas and has dedicated over 11 years to serving students in the Dallas school district. With a strong passion for nurturing young minds, she finds great joy in creating meaningful learning experiences and watching children’s curiosity come to life.

Mrs. Tellez began her career in education as a martial arts teacher, where she developed a strong foundation in discipline, respect, and student engagement. Over time, she transitioned into early childhood education and has dedicated the past 20 years to serving as a Pre-K teacher at Joe May Elementary. Throughout her career, Mrs. Tellez has been committed to nurturing young learners, creating a positive classroom environment, and supporting each child’s growth and development.

Ms. Gladys De La Torre

Ms. De la Torre is a devoted professional that cares about the growth and development of students in their life and academic skills. Assuring the students to get self-confidence on all the tasks they do. Her experience in teaching is from PK to 4th grade. Being a teacher is one of her most rewarding life experiences. Originally from Mexico, joined the education field 21 years ago.

Ms. Erly Ortiz

Ms. Ortiz was born and raised in Panama City, Panama, where her passion for teaching began. In 2023, she moved to Dallas, Texas, marking the start of a new chapter in both her personal and professional journey. She has been a teacher since 2013, working with students from preschool through first grade, and finds great joy in helping young learners grow.

Outside of teaching, she enjoys exploring new restaurants and cherishes spending time with her 25-year-old daughter.

Ms. Donaji Garcia

Ms. Garcia is an experienced educator with a diverse teaching background in Mexico at both the elementary and university levels. Since 2015, she has served in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD), where she has taught bilingual students in 1st, 4th, and 5th grades. She has been recognized as a TIA Designated Teacher for her commitment to excellence in education and student achievement.

Mr. Nicolas Sierra

Nicolás Sierra is a Colombian educator with over a decade of experience in teaching and a strong commitment to student growth and achievement. Currently teaching first grade in Dallas ISD, he creates a structured and engaging classroom environment where young learners build strong academic foundations while developing confidence and independence.

Throughout his career, Nicolás has developed expertise in bilingual education, using both Spanish and English to support diverse learners. Ms. Kary Pinzon

Kary Pinzon is a Colombian teacher with 12 years of experience in education. Ms. Maria Echeverria

Ms. Echeverria is a dedicated and compassionate educator with nearly a decade of experience shaping young minds in the classroom. She has spent eight years as a prekindergarten teacher and one year teaching first grade, building a strong foundation in early childhood education. Throughout her career, Maria has been committed to fostering a nurturing and engaging learning environment where students feel supported, valued, and inspired to grow.

During her nine years with Dallas Independent School District, Maria has developed a reputation for her patience, creativity, and ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds. Ms. Maria Pulido

Ms. Pulido is a bilingual second grade teacher at Joe May Elementary in Dallas ISD and serves as the Student Support Team (SST) Chair and one of the school’s website managers. Originally from Mexico, she collaborates with teachers, families, and staff to support student success and implement effective interventions. She also supports student motivation initiatives, including the school store, Go Mavs!

She is a vegetarian who enjoys building with LEGO and loves all things stationery. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics from UAT and a Master’s degree in Educational Research from CRETAM.

Ms. Karen Averanga

Ms. Averanga was born in La Paz, Bolivia. She obtained her bachelors degree in Business Administration and later a MBA with focus in Marketing. Started teaching in 2008 and discovered her love for education. This is her 18th year teaching.

Ms. Silvia Martinez

Ms. Martinez  is a bilingual educator with 15 years of experience, including 12 years at Dallas ISD. A native of Monterrey, Mexico, she teaches Reading, Science, and Social Studies, bringing a global perspective and a strong sense of purpose to her work. She is committed to helping students become confident thinkers, curious learners, and responsible individuals.

Ms. Martinez creates a structured yet welcoming classroom where students are encouraged to take risks, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning. Mrs. Alexandra Gutierrez

Ms. Gutierrez is a dedicated and caring third grade Math and ELAR teacher who is deeply passionate about learning and helping her students succeed while building confidence in themselves. Originally from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, she takes great pride in her culture and language, bringing warmth and authenticity into her classroom each day.

She creates a nurturing and engaging environment where every student feels valued, supported, and capable of growth. Mr. Juan Carlos Bazan

Mr. Bazan is a dedicated educator who has been teaching within the Dallas Independent School District since 2003. Throughout his career, he has served a wide range of students from kindergarten through sixth grade, contributing significantly to their academic development.

A pioneer in specialized instruction, Mr. Bazan was a member of the first cohort of ambassadors for the Dallas ISD dual language program, which was established based on the Gomez and Gomez Dual Language Enrichment Model. Since the opening of Jose "Joe" May Elementary in 2016, he has held several key leadership and instructional roles, including math coach, reading coach, and demo teacher.

Beyond his professional achievements in the classroom, Mr. Bazan is a passionate polyglot who speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Tagalog, Greek, and Korean, and possesses a developing knowledge of Swahili. Whenever he has some free time he enjoys cooking for his friends.

Ms. Jhaidee Nava

Ms. Nava has 12 years of experience in education and has taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Dual Language. She is passionate about supporting bilingual students in their language and literacy development. Originally from Venezuela, she holds a degree in Business and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M International University.

She currently serves as a member of the Dual Language Cadre, supporting the implementation of Dual Language programs in DISD, and has also worked alongside the Assessment Department to contribute to the development of districtwide reading assessments. She previously worked as a reading interventionist and is currently serving as a DTR Ambassador, supporting fellow educators through the Distinguished Teacher Review (DTR) process by providing one-on-one assistance, workshops, and mentorship. She has also mentored new teachers from the University of North Texas program, helping guide and support them as they begin their careers in education. 

Outside the classroom, Jhaidee enjoys playing pickleball, trying new smoothies, and learning about real estate. She is guided by her core values of honesty, growth, and responsibility, which shape her commitment to her students and professional practice.

Ms. Jaqueline Vazquez

Ms. Vazquez is a dedicated 4th grade math teacher at Joe May Elementary with nearly a decade of experience in bilingual math instruction. She began her career in education through Teach For America after graduating from Grand Canyon University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Over the past nine years, she has taught both 4th and 5th grade math and has also served as a math coach, supporting teachers in strengthening instructional practices and student outcomes.

Originally from Michoacán, Mexico, Ms. Vazquez grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, where she developed a strong appreciation for education and community. She is passionate about helping students build confidence in mathematics and believes that every child can succeed with the right support and encouragement.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Vazquez enjoys gardening, dancing, hiking, and traveling. She values creating meaningful connections with her students and families and is committed to fostering a positive, engaging learning environment where all students can thrive.

Ms. Karina Solis

Karina Solis is a proud product of Dallas ISD. She attended Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School for both middle and high school, where she developed a strong academic foundation and passion for learning. In 2020, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Education from University of the Incarnate Word.

Following her graduation, Ms. Solis began her career in education with Dallas ISD as a substitute teacher. Through this experience, she gained valuable classroom insight and further strengthened her commitment to student success. She later obtained her teaching certification and has since taught Kindergarten, 4th grade, and 5th grade. Across these grade levels, she has demonstrated dedication to fostering a supportive, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that meets the diverse needs of all learners.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Solis enjoys playing video games, swimming, weightlifting, and listening to music. She is also a proud owner of three Mini Australian Shepherds, whom she loves to care for. Mr. Jonathan Ricado

Mr. Ricado was born in Torreón, Mexico, and moved to the United States at the age of 16, settling in the North Dallas area. He proudly graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 2008. Having grown up in this community, Mr. Ricado has developed a strong connection to the students and families he now serves.

Mr. Ricado began his career in education with Dallas ISD as a teacher assistant. While working in the classroom, he pursued his bachelor’s degree and teaching certification. Over the past 14 years, he has taught 3rd through 5th grade in all subject areas, supporting students across a wide range of academic needs. In addition to his classroom role, he enjoys coaching the school’s soccer team, using it as a way to build community and motivate students to do well in school by promoting teamwork, responsibility, and pride in their efforts both on and off the field.

Mr. Ricado is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of his students. His teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that all students can succeed when provided with the right support, structure, and encouragement. Ms. Westbrook began her teaching career after graduating from Texas Tech University and has spent the past seven years in elementary education. She is committed to ensuring that all students reach their full potential and believes that learning is a lifelong journey. Jasmine San Miguel grew up in Celina, Texas, where she developed a strong passion for athletics and teamwork. As a multi-sport athlete, she competed in volleyball, basketball, and softball, building a foundation of discipline, resilience, and leadership. Her dedication to softball led her to compete at the collegiate level while attending Texas Woman’s University, where she earned her degree in education. During her time at TWU, Jasmine successfully balanced the demands of academics and athletics, strengthening her commitment to hard work and perseverance. These experiences shaped her approach to both personal and professional challenges.

Coach Brandon Foy-Delee

Brandon Foy-Delee is a dedicated Physical Education teacher and ABC Program Coordinator at Jose “Joe” May Elementary in Dallas ISD. He is passionate about creating a positive environment where students feel supported, challenged, and motivated to grow both inside and outside the gym. 

Brandon's background in education and leadership has shaped his belief that every child deserves encouragement, structure, and opportunities to succeed. He takes pride in helping students develop teamwork, discipline, and confidence through physical activity and character building.

Teaching Assistant: Gabriela Calderon

Inclusion/Resource Services are special education supports designed to help students with disabilities succeed in the general education classroom while receiving individualized instruction. In an inclusion setting, students learn alongside their peers with support from a special education teacher, who may provide accommodations, modifications, or co-teaching.
